PRESS RELEASE: Ake’s demise a colossal loss to us —APC South south

The south south zonal secretariat of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) has confirmed the death of one its chieftains in Rivers state, Chief Godspower Ake. Ake died of a protracted illness last Tuesday at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).He was aged 76 years.

A statement from the National Vice Chairman, south south of the APC, Ntufam Hilliard Eta described Ake's death as a colossal loss to the party. It said Ake believed in sound democratic ideals and progressive politics, hence his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party where he was uncomfortable with the persistent reign of impunity and undemocratic tendencies. Ake, according the statement also believed in people -centred politics, a factor which stood him out as a true progressive leader and development practitioner until his death.

The statement condoled the family of the deceased and the Rivers state chapter of the APC. It prayed God to grant them the fortitude to bear the 'irreparable' loss. Ake was a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly, and later the state chairman of the PDP. He also became the National Vice Chairman of the party before joining the APC at the peak of the crisis which saw the defection of former Governor Rotimi Amaechi and his teeming supporters to the APC.
