It's no more news that there is an ongoing administrative brouhaha between the offices of Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar and the Bursar of the same institution. Unconfirmed sources have it that the cause of the face off stems from alleged high handedness on the part of the VC, Professor Zana Akpagu and financial recklessness on the part of the school Bursar, Mr Peter Agi.
However, yesterday 18 August at 5:18PM, the Bursar, Mr Agi was observed to have registered the underlying words on his Facebook timeline: 'Suddenly there is an uproarious pressure seemingly endless. But when God intervenes it is reduced to nothing. Our God is certainly at work. Exodus 14:14 Change in Unical has come to stay no matter the unnecessary intermittent intimidation. One with God is a majority. The battle is of the Lord indeed. May He be exalted. Amen'.
It's interesting that the school Bursar refers to the administrative rift between his office and that of the VC as 'Uproarious pressure of intimidation'. Could he be confirming the allegation held in some quarters that the VC is highhanded? Again, when he submits that 'change in Unical has come to stay', what type of change could he be referring to? Could he be referring to the perceived trend of instituting financial discipline from his office? Could he be indirectly alleging that there is financial recklessness or related practices in the University of Calabar before his assumption of office?
Bursar Agi cites the Holy Writs of Christians in the Book of Exodus chapter 14 verse 14 which reads, 'The LORD shall fight for you, and you shall hold your peace', and obviously celebrates victory when he observes that 'one with God is a majority. The battle is of the Lord indeed. May He be exalted'. This may be unconnected to the invitation by the Commissioner of Police which he responded to on Wednesday 17 August.
