The Governor Ben Ayade's administration is to establish a Homeland Security services. This decision was communicated early this week when the Consular General of the French Consulate paid him a visit at his Calabar residence. In fact, an MoU was signed between the Office of the Governor of Cross River and the Consular General. Did I say Governor Ayade is intending to commit internal and national security intelligence to a foreign country, France? Yes!
According to him, the 'secret service unit of the Homeland security service will focus more on intelligence gathering in a digital nature, including satellite gathering which we expect to get some institutional approval from the federal government. It is our hope and strong conviction that this is the way to go in the face of the challenging tension we have in the Niger Delta'. In further delineating the intelligence dimension of his Homeland Security system, Ayade explained that: 'we have the French government support providing us with the necessary support we need to succeed, but importantly providing human security services will be the first point of call between the Homeland security and the people. It is technical in nature, it is intellectual, it is packed with a design to focus more on data gathering, intelligence gearing, because in security network, if you have advanced knowledge it will help to abet any action, and that is what we think the homeland security service will have a particular edge'.
Albeit, social commentators in Cross River State have aired their reservations for the Homeland security proposal, popular among which is Ifere Paul, Pamela Braide and Peter Offem Ubi, etc
Ifere Paul
Please God Help Ayade: He Is Definitely Clueless.
In a dramatic turn of events and poised to fight the security challenges in Cross River State, Governor Ben Ayade signed an MoU with the French Consulate for Homeland Security.
The MoU which was signed at his residence during a courtesy call by the Consulate, Governor Ayade said that the French will provide technicalities for the initiative to hold.
Governor Ayade stressed that the MoU is to establish the first in Nigeria Homeland Security network which will see the security personnel tackling security challenges without bearing arms.
Governor Ayade promised that the Homeland Security will create 3000 jobs.
The point is that one year after promising 2500 jobs through the Green Police, we are yet to see a single officer of the Green Police other the Inspector General of GP, Governor Ben Ayade.
Peter Offem Ubi
Since after his selection to become governor of my lovely Cross River State, I continued to doubt his abilities to make progress in governing, and Ayade proves my doubts right by his blinded action to involve the French on Cross River State Security. I am over disappointed with his cluelessness.
My inbox is loaded with complains on the insecurity around calabar today. Personally, I'm a victim of criminal vandalisim -my car was vandalized a few weeks back. The situation is out of hand, and rather than coordinate with our nation's law enforcement agencies, Ayade drops his confidence of the Nigeria enforcement authorities to sign an MOU with the French Government.
There are questions to ask here people….
Pamela Braide
After reading this I am not sure Ayade ìs aware of the severely eroded security situation in his State.
He wants to employ 3000 people to act as state "homeland" security and wants support from France. Yes France. He also says he is being proactive to sustain the peace and security Cross River is known for.
Is the word proactive here used as a joke? As in preventive? So whats happening now? Play?
If we simply followed our tourism vision and embarked on small public works like other states perhaps more than 3000 people would be engaged via businesses.
Something does not quite add up with our situation. Its time to send an SOS to the IG and beyond. Why is the police hamstrung? Why are these little cult boys unstoppable?
Please if you are close to the Governor tell him what is happening. France is too far
This is not an MOU or grammar matter

Does the reader think the idea of a Homeland Security system to combat crime in Cross River State is a novel one?
