In the 17 June 2016 programme, Intellectual Writing and Public Speaking Competition, organised by the Office of the Special Assistant (SA) to the Governor on Students Affairs & Youth Mobilisation, in collaboration with Intellectual Minds, at Women Development Center, Calabar, Special Assistant Michael Abuo while speaking on the topic: Change: a Concept for National Transformation, advised youths and students of Cross River State to build the inherent capacity in them in view of proffering solutions to national and state challenges. He further observed that if youths and students of the state don’t move out of their present comfort zone, then they may never become that which they are supposed to be.
In his own words, ‘If you don’t move out of your comfort zone, you will never become that which you are supposed to be’. Speaking further, the political appointee noted that ‘Cross River youths and students must build capacity for themselves; proffering solutions to Nigeria’s problem transcends social media’.
Abuo further reiterated the fact that success depends primarily on the individual, not the community. He confessed that he is inspired by the Executive Governor of Cross River State, HE Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade, whom he referred to as ‘My boss’. Abuo narrated how he charted a course for himself coming from a poor background. He charged the youthful audience to mind the type of company they keep.
On his advice to parents and guardians, SA Abuo encouraged them to provide good food and academics to their wards. Finally, he explained that students and youths had biological, civic and spiritual roles to play in society.
