Health Ministry Marks World Tobacco Day, Conduct Free Surgeries for VVF Patients

31 May world over is designated Tobacco Day. The 2016 edition fell on Tuesday this week. Its theme being: 'Get Ready for Plain Packaging'.

Cross River State Ministry of Health, under the indefatigable leadership of Dr Inyang Asibong, marked the world day by engaging in sensitization and advocacy activities. There were visits to the state owned Cross River Broadcasting Corporation (CRBC) and private owned Hit FM where sessions of Questions &  Answers were held.

Also, the major activity, that is, free surgeries, that was postponed during the 23rd May World Fistula Day whose theme was: 'Eliminating Fistula in the Current Generation' was finally conducted on the 31st May.

According to information from the Office of the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Cross River State under the Governor Ben Ayade's administration 'is working towards achieving this in the State'. That is, Ayade is poised towards eliminating Fistula in the current generation of Cross Riverians.
