"War against corruption will be vigorously sustained" – Buhari
President Buhari's statement above suggests on face value that he is out to fight corruption from the ivory tower.
He seems to make us believe that he is ready to unleash all his arsenals on "every" corrupt actions and their supposed actors.
Much as we would commend Mr president for such courageous bold front at combating corruption with determination.
We are however troubled by the fact that his 'cursor' seems to be lopsided, his corruption 'whip' seems to be falling on the backs of only his "PDP-enemy" party brothers rather than the duo of PDP and APC (I stand to be corrected otherwise)!
President Muhammadu Buhari seems to be "sparing the scared cows" in his APC cabinet.
We enjoin president Buhari to steer the pointer of corruption investigation to include the likes of Amaechi (his minister for Transport), Tinubu, the former Governor of Lagos state. As soon as these are achieved, he can then check out people like Theodore A. Orji ( the erstwhile Governor of Abia , just to mention a few.
He should however be wary of the fact that the list seems endless. Majority of the corrupt politicians and public office holders are taking shelter in his APC cabinet.
So many of them may have decamped from PDP to the now APC while others remained.
No doubt, They may have been forewarned by their "religious Balam" of a Prophet that the 'storm was coming' and that if they must act, they must do so wisely and quickly, before the law catches up on them.
You would recall that PMB while holding an interactive session at the Aso Villa with members of the statehouse who had converged to welcome him from his Holiday in London, did pledge that his administration's war against corruption will be vigorously sustained in order to rid the country of the leprous effects of the looting of public funds over the years.
In his words:
"I have never in my life believed in corruption. If we make any mistake and compromise our integrity, Nigeria will be further dragged back.
We will not touch anybody that did not touch public funds. If you behave yourself, you'll sleep soundly, your families will enjoy respect. But if you have short-changed the treasury, you will be caught and you’ll have your day in court."
We can only hope that the president stays true to his words. He should start the purge from within without fear, favours or sentiments.
