Today, 23rd May is designated as Vesico Vaginal Fistula (VVF) Day world over. The theme for this year's event is, 'Ending Fistula in the current generation'. The Cross River State Government via the Ministry of Health have outlined activities to mark this day on quite a remarkable note.
The CRS Commissioner for Health, Dr. Inyang Asibong has observed that her ministry in partnership with UNFPA and Fistula Care Project, a non-profit, non-governmental organisation given to catering for the wellbeing of patients diagnosed with Vesico Vaginal Fistula disease condition will be offering free medical services to Nigerians of Cross River State origin.
These free medical services will entail:
*Free testing for suspected VVF patients who report themselves
*Free Surgeries for 80 VVF patients
*Free transportation for VVF patients
*Free feeding for the affected patients
*Free medical consultation, etc.
In her words, 'Everything will be free. All we require is for the said patients to report themselves at the General Hospital, Calabar specifically at the Office of the Medical Superintendent'.
Commissioner Asibong also noted that, the World VVF Day will be observed beginning from Monday 23rd through Tuesday 31st May 2016. It was also garnered that the CRS Ministry of Health will be conducting sensitisation tours across the state, both in urban and rural areas, to advocate for early reporting of cases of VVF at medical facilities across the state.
