Following the 2 May 2016 kidnapping of the son of Dr. Iniama, Secretary of Graduate School of the University of Calabar and the wife and daughter of one Dr. Ndifon, an academic staff with the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar, the University of Calabar chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) met yesterday and resolved amongst others things to embark on a 7 day solidarity strike beginning from yesterday 3rd May.
The industrial action is informed by the need to impress upon the management of the university, state and federal governments the awry security situation as well as request their assistance in this regard.
Meanwhile, an ad hoc committee was constituted yesterday by ASUU to make an all round appraisal of the security challenge as well as make recommendations to the university management and government.
It had also been brought to the notice of Negroid Haven that security has been beefed-up at the site of the Vice Chancellor’s office complex.
