National Association of Community Health Practitioners of Nigeria (NACHPN) to hold their National Workshop in Calabar.
According to the association's representative in Calabar, Mr Joe Okperewu, while briefing the Director General of Cross River State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Betta Edu, in her office said the workshop which is themed: "Achieving Universal Health Coverage under the sustainable development goals" is schedule from Monday 6th June, 2016 to Friday 10th June, 2016 at the hall of Cross River State Cultural Centre Complex, Mary Slessor Avenue, Calabar.
Mr Okperewu noted that, the opening ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, 7th June by 10am, while free outreach and Mobile health Services is scheduled for Wednesday, 8th June, during which members of the profession are expected in markets, selected schools, undertake community mobilization, deworming exercise in primary schools, free measurement of Blood Pressure and mass immunization of women and children using all the antigens without any remuneration to workers providing the services.
Finally, he requested the presence of the State Governor, Sen (Prof) Ben Ayade to flag-off the workshop and he requested financial assistance from Cross River State Government to enable the Local chapter of the association meet up with their financial obligations of organizing the workshop.
Responding, Dr Betta Edu FCAI, congratulated the Cross River State chapter for successfully winning the hosting right for the workshop. Noting that the last time CRS had this opportunity was 18yrs ago. She tasked the body to live up to expectation as they have a role to play in community health system of the state and also used the opportunity to enlightened the health workers on the importance of Community Health Insurance Scheme which is one of the major policy of His Excellency, Prof Ben Ayade in Primary Healthcare revitalisation in the state.
"Let me remind you as front line Primary Health Professionals, you are poised to tackle issues by bringing together all stakeholders to share experiences and proffer enduring solution to quality and affordable primary healthcare delivery in the state", the DG informed.
Dr Edu promised State Government assistance to the Local Chapter of the association to enable them attain their financial obligations of hosting the workshop in the state. According to her, the state will look into areas they can assist to make the workshop a success. She noted that hosting over 1500 community health workers in CRS will boost not only health care delivery but the economic and tourism sector of the state.
