THROW BACK: CRS World Health Day Celebration, CRSG Assures Reduction in Diabetes

The World Health Day is celebrated every 7th day of the month of April globally. The 2016 edition fell on Thursday 7 April last week. The theme for this year's world Health Day is —'Halt the Rise, beat Diabetes'. In Cross River State, the august day was celebrated with remarkable pomp.

The Honourable Commissioner for Health, CRS, Dr. Mrs. Inyang Asibong, with her Ministry (of Health), along partners like the World Health Organisation (WHO), Society for Family Health (SFH), Leo Clubs, and the general public held an interactive session with participants made up of health workers including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, other health workers, students in college of health technology Calabar, etc.

In the course of the interactive session the Honourable Commissioner assured Cross Riverians of the state government decision to reduce premature death from diabetes by 30% come 2030. In her words, 'Gov Ayade is committed to attaining 9 global targets in the WHO Global Action plan for the prevention and control of diabetes'.

High points of the celebration was
*a demonstration walk from state Ministry of Health to Etim Edem Park

*free diabetes screening and other tests like HIV, Malaria test carried out,

*doctors prescribed and free drugs were dispensed,

*donation made to the aged home at Pope John Paul 11 Good Samaritans Home, Calabar Prison, Calabar South like antimalaria, antibiotics, mosquito nets, among other drugs.
