On the 22nd of April 2016, wife of the Governor of Cross River State (CRS) and President of Mediatrix Development Foundation (MDF) Dr. Linda Ayade, was through her Foundation seen to be donating Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets(LLINs) to students of the University of Calabar (Unical), as part of activities marking the 2016 World Malaria Day Celebration in the State, coming up on April, 25th, 2016.
As Dr. Ayade presented the gifts to the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Professor Zana Akpagu, camera shots captured Prof. Akpagu as he genuflected before her shaking hands.
While there may be nothing particularly wrong in his bowing before her, what baffled and still baffles me is, to what end did he bow —as a symbol of respect to her or her husband (the governor of Cross River State, Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade)? Or, was it a sign of appreciation to her kind gesture?
I may be speaking the minds of other keen observers.
