The Accreditation Team of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) led by Mrs Falilat Salami has posited that it will be very objective in carryout its assignment and mandate.
Mrs Salami stated this while leading a five member accreditation team on a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Health, Dr (Mrs) Inyang Asibong, hoping the state Government will make it possible for the schools to come alive as Cross River State was next to Imo state before now to have the highest number of schools of Nursing and Midwifery.
The team is to inspect the school of Midwifery Calabar and School of Nursing Itigidi, Abi Local Government Area with the view to providing them accreditation to begin training of Midwifery and Nursing students. Mrs Salami observed that Nursing was facing ageing workforce and called for regular training of new generation of Nurses in suitable and conducive environment to fill the gap.
Others on the team were Mrs Patricia Akpe, Secretary -Mrs Ramat Hassan, Assistant Secretary -Mrs Nkiru Egbe and Mrs Nnonyelum Onyejiaka. The Commissioner for Health, Dr Inyang Asibong earlier informed that the state Government has put everything together to ensure the accreditation of the schools, maintaining that the state is in dire need of young and vibrant Nurses.
According to Dr Asibong, "the team will witness a dramatic positive change during their inspection", she added that school of Midwifery, ogoja, hopefully, will soon start selling of forms and soon the Council will visit again for full accreditation.
The Commissioner lauded the efforts of the Director of Nursing Services, Cross River State Barr (Mrs) Christy Essien who she said is hard working and confident to work with, and that she will lead the state team during the inspection of facilities.
Dr Asibong welcomed the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria accreditation team on behalf of the state Governor, His Excellency, Senator Prof. Benedict Ayade and the state ministry of Health to the state and wished the members to savour the hospitality of the people.
Also on hand to warmly receive the accreditation team were management staff of the ministry, the chairman of the National Association of Nurses and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NANNM) CRS, Com Ojong Ogar , Representative of WHO Dr Ojo.
