The University Of Calabar in her 29th convocation ceremony held earlier today in the prestigious Abraham udia Stadium did bestow honorary awards to several dignitaries who have distinguished themselves in different spheres ranging from Academics to the sociopolitical scenes.

Among the recipients of the honorarium is the indefatigable erstwhile Governor of Cross river state,  Donald Etim Duke, Senate president Saraki and the former senator Ita Giwa.

The duo of Donald Duke and Saraki were awarded an Honorary doctorate Degrees in Law, while Former senator Ita Giwa was awarded an honorary doctorate in political Science.

However, Donald Duke seemed as the central figure of attraction amongst the trio. According to eyewitness account he was  described as a rare gem, a leader with foresight and goodwill.

Participants told Negroidhaven in an interview that indeed he (Donald Duke)deserved even more due to his laudable accomplishments during his tenure as Governor which included the complete transformation of the entire topography and geography of cross river state into a paradise, hence the slogan " The people's paradise".

Negroidhaven gathered that this Donald Duke was considered and dubbed as a statesman, an environmentalist, a seasoned lawyer, a political juggernaut, a quintessential pragmatic philosopher amongst other numerous accolades.

His passion for the progress of the people of cross river is unequalled and his transformation mindset stems into the diversification of the states sources of revenue from  Agriculture, to commerce, and to  Tourism. The trio of which he combined to make cross river state, a Tourist destination and a Paradise on earth.

He is indeed a rare combination of leadership skills of foresightedness a forthrightness.

He proved that cross river state could become a praise and centre for attraction in the world and indeed he achieved his goal.

With all the hardwork invested to achieve this feat during his tenure, one can only wonder why other successors of his could not follow suit in his examplary leadership. We can only hope that they will wake up and then rebuild the " broken walls" of cross river state.

We at Negroidhaven Join the rest of cross riverians to congratulate Mr  Donald Duke for this honour for indeed, he proved to be the man of the people!
