Cross River Health Commissioner, Dr. (Mrs) Inyang Asibong, has assured casual staff of state-owned hospitals to be patient as government will soon absorb them into the state civil service.

Dr. Asibong gave the assurance at several Hospitals during a state-wide Needs Assessment Tour. She said that the state Governor, Senator Benedict Ayade, had already collated a list of all casual staff in the health sector and the absorption will soon begin as the state civil service commission has been reconstituted.

Dr. Asibong said "The state government is financially constraint at the moment, but His Excellency, Senator Ayade has sent us to go round and check the problems in various hospitals and I will get back to him as he is in hurry to develop our health sector".
"Even before I met you, I had already submitted your names to the Governor, there was no civil service commission, I think that delayed it, our Governor is very concern about your situation, you will soon smile" Dr. Asibong assured casual staff.

"We are suffering, we have not been paid since nine months, please tell our Governor to absorb us, let us become state government staff", Alice Abukpen, a casual ward orderly at General Hospital Sankwala, Obanliku who like other colleagues, has been a casual staff since the year 2000, told the Commissioner.
