'All glory to God!!! It's awesome rededicating one's life to God…today I put aside my greatest impediment to a fulfilled spiritual life in Christ and profess that never again shall I be sexually intimate with anyone except the woman that shall be my wife…

For the rest of my life!!!! I say this with faith and in believe of Christ Grace through which I can do all things!'

-Prince Michael Nku Abuo
February, 2016

Prince Michael Nku Abuo is the incumbent Special Adviser(SA) to Cross River State Governor, Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade, on Students' Affairs & Youth Mobilisation; and Administrator of Cross River State Political Network, a Cross River-based online political platform.

The above statement is attributed to Prince Abuo. When the present author challenged him on the seriousness of the above clausal expression, Abuo, reiterated his conviction in the following words:

'For those who may see this as a joke watch out! This is no joke!! For those who may feel this is just a media display…I swear by my life that it isn't!!! I have reasons to have say this, we are saved by the conviction of our heart and confessions of our mouth…It is indeed true that there's God and if I stand with Him I must do so fully and there's no sin which destroys so quickly spiritually and physically like the sin of sexual immorality….for our body is God's temple'

The youthful leader further posited that:

'I MAKE THIS CONFESSIONS IN CHRIST JESUS AS A MARK FOR MYSELF AND AS STRENGTH TO YOUTHS AND PEOPLE ALL OVER THE WORLD….SEXUAL IMMORALITY HAS NO GAIN! FAITHFULNESS, CHASTITY AND FIDELITY IS OUR GREATEST GIFT TO GOD WHO MADE US AND HAS PAID SO MUCH TO KEEP US!'

Prince Abuo's moral U-turn, as he wants us to believe, isn't inspired by the fear of a hair-splitting, fire-brand charismatic Christian preacher whose sermons he must have listened to recently, but is incited by an in depth conviction steered by a deep-seated moral compass. In his words,

'IT IS NOT JUST A QUESTION OF HELL OR HEAVEN, IT IS A QUESTION OF INNER PEACE AND DISENTANGLEMENT FROM EVIL….I AM OF CHRIST TODAY AND I BEAR HIS MARK FOREVER….IT NEVER GONNA BE EASY BUT A DAILY PROFESSION OF MY VOW AND ACTION IS ALL I NEED…'.

The converting politician confesses to have being earlier on practicing the life he now chooses for himself, implying that, while walking with Christ, he must have allowed the pleasures if 'the world' to veer his focus off his master and saviour. Like the legendary prodigal son, he now says,

'I ONCE WAS FULLY IN HIM AND I LOST IT BY MY ACTIONS BUT NOW HIS GLORY AND LOVE IS BACK ON ME…THANKS TO THOSE WHO ENCOURAGED ME AND THOSE SECRETLY PRAYING FOR ME…GOD SHALL HEAR YOUR CRY TOO AND GIVE YOU TRUE BONDING WITH HIM….'

It's obvious our youthful politician must have had a then-enjoyable stint with the opposite sex(s) that may have gone awry. This may be the reason he is 'defecting' to Christ. Besides, we all know the mischief of youthfulness and moral laxity common amongst our politicians of today. These realities may have caught up with Abuo. However, Our dear Prince is poised to getting practical with his religious conviction. He doesn't want to play pranks with his God. Thus, he would say,

'IF WE ALL LOVE CHRIST WE WILL KEEP HIS COMMAND AND THIS WORLD WILL BE MOST PEACEFUL…TODAY I SAY YET AGAIN NEVER TO SEXUAL IMMORALITY AND YES TO MORALITY, FIDELITY, FAITHFULNESS AND THE FULNESS OF  CHRIST EVEN AS I CONFESSED MY SINS TO SALVATION! GOD BE PRAISED!!!'.

I pray that Prince Abuo's new found love in Christ Jesus especially on social media will find material expression in his every day live. I also pray that Cross River youths will follow his lead especially on a Valentine's Day.
