There have been sundry attempt to rationalise violence especially the Boko Haram debacle in Nigeria's northeastern geopolitical zone.
The one school of thought opine that the insurgency in the north is attributed to religious sentiments, while another school posits ethnicity. Some have even related it with drug abuse, intoxication, and the like.
However, Prince Thomas Abi Jr., Cross River State leading social commentator and public affairs analyst contends that Boko Haram could be rationalised from the perspective of the dearth in social security. For Abi, a solid social security system in Nigeria retains the efficiency to check insurgency.
What follows, are his exact words as articulated today on his social media(Facebook) account:
"The war against insurgency in Nigeria cannot be won if Nigerians cannot afford the basic necessities of life. A man who is hungry is exposed to stealing. He is exposed to all forms of social vices. The notorious Boko Haram sect today and the numerous bombing taking place in the nation are as a result of the unavailability of social security for the Nigerian People".
