In the 8th February 2016 appointments into various government boards, councils, agencies, etc made by Gov. Ben Ayade of Cross River State, there is what is referred to as Cross River State Scrap Metal Regulatory Agency which has on its membership the following:

1. Ezinma Anana -Director General
2. Dr. D. C. Enamhe -Secretary
3. Henry Ofewhah -Member
4. Kingsley Ene Ita -Member
5. Josiah Erasmus Ofem -Member
6. Sylvester Liko Ushieakpan -Member
7. Christopher Amadi -Member
8. Kingsley Ntui -Member
9. Martin Edet Asuquo -Member
10. Princess Filia Henshaw -Member
11. Patrick Ani -Member

Prominent amongst these members is one Dr. Barr. Dorncklaimz Enamhe, a household name in Cross River State politics and an ardent loyalist of Ayade. He, it was who introduced the phrase: 'World wide' into students' activism according to which we have National Association of Cross River State Students (NACRISS) Worldwide, etc

Though we can't tell the terms and reference of this agency, a cursory look at the agency especially its name suggests that this government institution, Scrap Metal Regulatory Agency will be responsible for the regulation of scrap metals in Cross River. What a demeaning job!

Ifere Paul on his part decried this appointment thus, 'Chai!!! I pity Dorncklaimz Enamhe for his new appointment into the Cross River Scrap Metal Board. Hmmm….I don't know whether or not to congratulate Dr DC for this apparent disregard from the governor of Cross River State.

That appointment list is so biased that I almost cried because the special people with special skills in scrap metallurgy were not appointed.

We all know that scrap metal business in the whole Nigeria is done by our northern Nigerian brothers (aboki or mallam). Bogobiri full there with scrap metal specialists, and yet, na DC name Governor Ayade remember. What's wrong to reciprocate the kind gesture of mallam El-Rufai with an appointment to our northern brothers?'

The observation is that this job could be efficiently given to Calabar Urban Development Authority (CUDA) to avoid unnecessary duplicity and chaos. Why not pay CUDA staff to do this job Your Excellency? Besides, considering the fact that this job is the exclusive preserve of our northern brothers from any of the Northwest, Northeast or northcentral states of the federation, why appoint elites or intellectuals into the office? Enamhe is a legal practitioner and academic, why not appoint him into something more professionally befitting?

In my thinking this disdainful appointment is evidently an embarrassment to the person of Enamhe owing to the fact that the job this agency will be responsible for is to ensure that scrap metals that are littered in the state are taken away. CUDA can do this; and if they can't, then professionals should not be dragged into this demeaning trend of executive mockery.

We are calling on His Excellency to desist from or review this trend of insulting or degrading well respected Cross Riverians in desperate bid to solicit support. Also, we wish to state that the trend of making unnecessary appointments and creating offices without any relevance to the sociopolitical, socioeconomic and sociocultural wellbeing of the masses should cease immediately.

If His Excellency has run out of ideas on how to create jobs and make the state economically viable he should honourably resign.
