HEALTH: CRSG to Partner with Concern Universal International to Ensure Rural Sanitation & Hygiene Promotion

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Community and Primary Health Dr. (Mrs.) Betta Edu last friday visited the Zonal Coordinator of Concern Universal (C.U) which is an international development organization that has been working through local partners and tackling poverty since 1999 in Nigeria.

The Coordinator who welcomed the S.A, thanked her and members of her team for the visit, informing her that they are striving hard to provide and improve every project in CRS to maximise value for money and ensure sustainability as they will be willing to partner with Cross River State Government through Department of Community and Primary Healthcare.

In his words 'Our theory of change helps us to check that we are not only doing things right but also whether we are doing the right things as we work to challenge poverty and inequality. We have three main aims focusing on achieving resilient lives and attaining better health while upholding the right of individuals and people'.

'In Cross River State, we are improving on the health of people by increasing access to basic services including access to safe water, increased sanitation, and improved hygiene practices. We focus on better health because without health there can be no development. Good primary healthcare starts with basic  access to clean water and good sanitation. Several project has been executed through our program, Rural Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion in Nigeria (RUSHPIN)', he continued.

The Special Adviser thanked the organisation for the work the have began in CRS and advised the organization to extend their scope of work from 3 LGA's to 18 to improve their coverage promising to forward their partnership request to the State Government. She also used the opportunity to intimate them of some of the health initiatives of Her Excellency,  Dr. Mrs Linda Ayade, wife of the Governor. And pointed out ways the could partner with her to achieve better results. One of her anti diarrhea programs tagged "clean hands CRS" will sensitize people on the need for peoper handwashing. This will help prevent future  occurence of water disease outbreak such as diarrhea and Cholera in our communities.

The management of the organisation was delighted to hear of the governor's wife initiatives and promise to partner with her and also make her the Sanitation Ambassador of Cross River State.
