Senator Gershom Bassey representing Cross River Southern Senatorial District in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, on Friday 8 January 2016 flagged off welfare and free eye care services, where he doled out gift items and cash worth over 10 million naira to his members of his constituency.
The distribution and the free eye care services, which took place at the senator’s constituency office in Ibako Lane, Calabar South, was said to be for his victory during the election and the triumph at the judgment of the election tribunal and Court of Appeal, which is now evident that the mandate given to him was truly of God’s will as validated by the people.
The gift items like wrappers, raw foods among others were shared in all the pooling units that make up Southern Senatorial District in Cross River.
The senator told his supporters who were mostly widows and aged women that he was there to appreciate them and intimate them on his political journey and for regular feedback as a major tool in effective representation.
He also assured his supporters that he remains a grassroot senator and not a noisemaker politician or a senator in diaspora that was not accessible by his ardent supporters.
Gershom Bassey vowed to do more to alleviate the suffering of His people mostly the less privileged, vulnerable youths and the aged in the next four years and to take the Southern Senatorial District to greater heights while representing them through God’s grace.
