HEALTH NEWS: Gov. Ben Ayade’s Aide Brief CRSHA on State Measles Immunisation Exercise

ADVOCACY VISIT TO THE CROSS RIVER STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY BY DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY HEALTH AND PRIMARY HEALTHCARE LED BY S.A TO THE GOVERNOR, DR BETTA EDU AND PARTNERS FROM W.H.O AND UNICEF TO BRIEF THE HOUSE ON THE STATE MEASLES IMMUNIZATION EXERCISE COMMENCING FROM 28TH JANUARY TO 1ST FEBRUARY, 2016.

The Special Adviser in her opening remarks said the visit is to straighten the relationship between the department and the House of Assembly to enable them deliver quality healthcare services to the people which is the primary objective of the department. Dr Betta, also informed the Speaker, Rt. Hon. John Gaul Lebo on the state measles immunization exercise and a 100% warrant for a succesfull reachout to all children (Five months to nine years old).

She solicited for partnership of the  House on healthcare services in the state by calling on Honorable Members to reach out to their constituency and inform their people about the state immunization exercise. Publicity materials of the measles campaign were presented to the speaker. She thanked the speaker, House committee chairman on health and other Honorable House Members for their wonderful support and reception accorded to the health team from the Department.

On his part, the coordinator of World Health Organization(WHO) in the state briefed the Speaker on measles campaign support provided by the organization since 2008. He reitrated the call by the S.A that 100% Immunization target must be achieved. He informed the House that measles vaccines are free. The Honorable Speaker was assured by WHO personnel that his organization is solidly behind the state and will continue supporting the healthcare delivery of Sen. (Prof.) Ben Ayade.

Hon. Ekpo Bassey, the House Committee chairman on health, while responding, thanked the state Governor Sen.(Prof.) Ben Ayade, the Special Adviser Dr. Betta Edu, Health partners( WHO and UNICEFS) for their giant stride in providing free quality healthcare to the people. He promised that the house members will take the message to their various constituencies in the state. He notified the delegation of the house intention to pass bills on health ranging from the proposed Primary Healthcare Development Agency and State Health Insurance Scheme.

Finally the Speaker CRSHA, Rt. Hon. Lebo, in his remarks, noted the importance of quality heathcare services in the state and the resolved by the House to pass various pending bills on health as earlier highlighted by Hon. Ekpo Bassey, House committee Chairman on Health. He said the legislature will fully cooperate with the Department of Community Health and Primary Heathcare to achieve the general target of quality healthcare delivery to the people.

He assured the S.A of total support from the House on immunization exercise starting from 28th January to 1st February 2016. He stated that a date will be fixed to publicly inform the people on measles immunization exercise in the state.

Dr Ana, State Director of Primary Healthcare in his appreciation remarks on behalf the Department of Community Health and Primary Healthcare thanked the Honorable Speaker, House committee chairman on health and other members of the House for their promise to support the department. He reassured the Speaker of the health workers readiness to support the state Government policies on health.
