HEALTH: Gov.Ayade’s S.A on Community & Public Health Flags-off Programme for State Measles Immunisation Exercise -Charles Ekanem

The Special Adviser to the Cross River State Governor Prof. (Sen.) Benedict Ayade on Community & Primary Health Care, Dr. Betta Edu yesterday 11 January 2016, at the Conference Room of the Federal Secretariat, Murtala Mohammed Highway, Calabar intimated the Primary Health workers during the flag-off of State Level implementation Training of Trainers (TOT) LGA team members to be committed on carrying out a successful state measles immunization exercise which is to commence 28th January, and end on 1st February 2016.

The S.A informed the health workers of the Governor, Prof. (Sen.) Ben Ayade resolved and willingness to make available logistic funds and neccesarry support to make the exercise a succesfull one. She further highlighted various measures that must be taken by state technical facilitators (STF) and LGA Team Members to attained the target of 100% success in the exercise.

Some of the measures included:-
》Prompt daily call in data
》Submission of actual data (not giving a very high coverage above 100% when it is not so)
》Coverage of hard to reach areas (HTRAs)
》Completion of team members (7 persons per team).

She advice the STF and LGA Team Members to always use marker pen for identification to avoid multiple immunization on one child.

On the outbreak of Lassa Fever, the S.A said adequate measures have been set to prevent the occurance of the disease in CRS and encouraged them to go into the communities sensitising everyone on the importance of general hygine and hand washing as well as protection of their food and drinks from rats and other rodents.

The participants of the training were Primary Health Care Coordinators, Local Immunization officers, Cold Chain officers, Health educators and Disease Surveillance Notification Officers.

After her speech, the UNICEF communications consultant in CRS commended her initiative and remarked that her level of commitment and drive for field supervision is unprecedented in CRS. She equally noted that the S.A had touched on all the challenges in her speech, which showed profound knowledge and mastery of the task she has been given.
