Former Barcelona President Joan Larpota who was President 2003 and 2010 had success with the club when he secured the UEFA Champions League with managers Frank Rijkaard and Pep Guardiola respectively.
He was given vote of no confidence in 2008 before his lost to Sandro Rosell in 2010 Presidential election.
Rosell resigned last January due to allegations of misappropriated funds from the signing of Neymar. Josep Maria Bartomeu, took over as incumbent President and he will be Laporta's main competitor for Presidency. 52 year old Joan Laporta believes he has earned many support from the Barca fans as he the former Barca president explained that one of the reasons he is running for the presidency with the slogan "The club can be for everyone again" is "the support of so many Barca fans he has received over many years."
The election which was scheduled to hold 2016 will be held July 18 this year as it was brought forward by Mario Bartomeu so as to reduce the tension that the club is experiencing and suffering from, amid report Luis Enrique has lost the support of the dressing room and the sacking of sporting director Adoni Zubizarreta.
